Introducing the new podcast, host Richard Sparkes says:
“I volunteered to help out with the Podcast project because it is something I am passionate about. For years the stigma around substance use has been a barrier to accessing treatment. I have lived experience myself. It wasn’t a million years ago I was in a rehab beginning my recovery journey. I’d been what they call a “functioning addict” for the previous 20 years but believe me, there was nothing functional about my life back then.
“Having joined Framework three years ago after sorting myself out, I realised that one of the main barriers to accessing treatment is a lack of awareness of services and treatments available. I’d always thought, for example, that the only route to rehab was funding it yourself. Knowing what I know now about the incredible services in Nottingham, this Podcast series is a great way of spreading that awareness and providing a little hope to people who are struggling, and their families.”
Episodes will be published monthly. To get things rolling here are the first two episodes:
In Episode 1 we sit down with Jess from the Rough Sleeper’s Drug and Alcohol Treatment Team (RSDATT). Jess shares valuable insights into the daily work of supporting individuals through the challenges of addiction and recovery. Drawing on years of experience, she offers a professional perspective on the support services available and emphasises the importance of compassion and connection in helping people rebuild their lives.
In Episode 2 we follow Matt’s inspiring personal recovery journey, shedding light on the many hurdles people face in overcoming addiction.
